Internationally recognized and globally celebrated, the artwork of Alain Godon will be showcased at the opening reception, Saturday, April 9 from 6:00 p.m.- 8:00 p.m. at the Laguna Niguel gallery
(LAGUNA NIGUEL, CA) February 5, 2022 – Markowicz Fine Art has announced its spring exhibition showcase, “California Dreaming” featuring modern and contemporary artworks by acclaimed French sculptor and painter, Alain Godon. Over twenty original artworks including mixed media, works on paper and sculptures, will be on display beginning April 9.
“After representing Alain Godon in the United States for more than twelve years, I’m excited to introduce his work to the savvy art collectors and art enthusiasts of Orange County,” said Bernard Markowicz, owner of Markowicz Fine Art. “Alain has been embraced by critics and art lovers alike, all who have had the opportunity to experience his work in galleries around the world. We anticipate the same caliber of reception here on the West Coast. The opening reception will be a time to celebrate Alain’s new collection of artworks.”
As a pavement graffiti artist in France and the UK during the 1980s, Alain became a sought-after talent, known for his colorful and comprehensive designs and the use of bold, strong colors. As his style evolved, he honed his technique for drawing and painting during his residencies in St. Tropez, London and New York City, while expanding into sculpture work in 2001.
Since then, his work has been seen globally in galleries and museums in Europe, Bali and throughout the United States. In 2015, he was commissioned by the City of Miami Beach to illustrate and create the graphic art for the official report for the City of Miami Beach.
Detailed, whimsical and charismatic, the work of Alain Godon creates insightful conversation with each piece. Alain’s paintings are reflections on everyday life, infused with his unique imagination. Followers of his art have been known to purchase pieces well before completion. Alain has exhibited his art within the walls of the Louvre and has been lauded as “one of the best painters of his generation” by Christian Boeringer, former commercial director of the Louvre Museum, and Patrice Deparpe, Director of the Matisse Museum.
The featured pieces in Godon’s new “California Dreaming” exhibition include oil paintings and bronze sculptures.

About Alain Godon
Alain Godon was born on Nov. 1, 1964 in Bourges, France. At the age of 11 he learned how to draw with his uncle, an architect, in Achicourt, France. In 1986, he lived for a while in Paris and then moved on to Brighton in the United Kingdom earning his living as a graffiti pavement artist in both cities. In 1988, in the French resort of Courchevel, he began a series of new works, which he referred to as “Childish Art “.
Then in 1989, he spent the summer season in Saint Tropez and began his first oil on canvas paintings. In 2006, after an extended sojourn in New York, Alain Godon moved to London, and he still lives in the UK today. Alain Godon savored his first personal exhibition in 1994 in the
Palais d’Europe in Le Touquet. Countless exhibitions have since followed in numerous galleries both in France and abroad, to include New York, Miami, Los Angeles, Aspen, Denver, Amsterdam, and Bali. He has also exhibited in the French National Assembly in Paris in 2001. At around the same time, he also started sculpting, using this medium as a means of expression for the way in which he views the world; he infuses his subject matter with a childish inspiration and through the eyes of his own particular and unique humor. In 2009, Alain Godon originated a new artistic concept, the “24 Hours” series, which dovetails the ancient ancestral technique of oil on canvas with modern digital technology. The term “24 Hours” is a nod to some of the classical masters. Each of the 24 unique artworks capture the different hours within a 24 hour period, similar to the way Monet and Van Gogh painted the same subject matter in each of the four seasons.
Unlike Andy Warhol, who colorized his photos, Alain Godon does it differently; he takes one of his paintings, which he photographs in ultra-high definition, and by “de-constructing” each element of the original oil painting and then “re-constructing” the picture by adding a shadow effect, the artist creates a three-dimensional impression. This year, and for the first time at Markowicz Fine Art in Laguna Niguel, Alain Godon is presenting a new technique called QT (“Cutie”), which is a three dimensional artwork created with multiple layers of cut paper.
Markowicz Fine Art is the exclusive agent for Alain Godon in the USA.
