Amanda Maciel Antunes, Where We Go From Here: Public Film Premiere and Performance

Join us on October 17th at 7:00 PM, for new performance art by Amanda Maciel Antunes and the public premiere of her film, Where We Go From Here, shot between 2018-2019 during residences in the Amazon, Brazil, and Los Angeles. Commissioned by Luna Anaïs Gallery, the performance is part of Ithaca, Amanda’s solo exhibition on view now through October 28th that responds to Homer’s Odyssey through a feminine lens. Produced by Ilona Berger.
Performance and screening will take place outside in the yard of Tin Flats, and the exhibition will be open for viewing.

“How does the perceived permanence or temporality of our location affect us? Where We Go From Here is a film intended to recreate the experience of being in different places at the same time. The recording of my departures from each location in the film; the Amazon’s Rio Negro, my hometown in rural São Paulo, the extreme south of South American island of Florianopolis, and finally Los Angeles, CA; as an attempt to understand the interconnectedness of my notions of home and memory.
I want to test the limits of response when the mundane and unexpected coexist. I want to know how we perceive reality and its relationship to the landscape and our collective memory. No one remembers everything, nor in precisely the same way. My experiences of distance, migration, and identity from the places both in my past, present and future, allows for a particular sensitivity to the themes of this performance.“ – Amanda Maciel Antunes 2021
