Exhibitions have been done on the influence of Black Metal and the musical genre’s effect on art, philosophy and academia. These exhibits mainly focus on Black Metal’s earliest incantations as a raw, and angry form of musical expression. Black Metal has a sordid history, but the new form of Black Metal has had a ripple effect on fashion, art and design, and the results are arguably becoming as popular. Whether or not the music is directly responsible, the makers of the music are often times also involved in other areas of art and the dark, yet newly sophisticated aesthetic has carried over. Black Metal has retained much of its darkness, but has evolved into something more refined and focused.

Black Metal has always relied heavily on aesthetics and this show will highlight the evolution of the modern Black Metal aesthetic from earlier incantations, but will focus on the more modern look and mood. The purpose of this exhibit is to explore an area of art that is rarely portrayed favorably. Pitch: The Modern Black Metal Aesthetic will showcase art and artists who are involved in the musical genre in some way and also great art that reflects the dark aesthetic.
