(LOS ANGELES, CA) – Open Mind Art Space is pleased to present Curvatures, a solo exhibition featuring works by Los Angeles photographer Ed Freeman. An opening reception will be held for the artist on Saturday, April 8th from 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM. The exhibition will be on view from Saturday, April 8th through Friday, May 5, 2017.

Ed Freeman originally gained notoriety in the music business as a guitarist and songwriter. Highlights of his music career include working as a road manager on the last Beatles tour in 1966, arranging over two dozen albums for artists including Carly Simon and Cher and producing and arranging Don McLean’s iconic “American Pie.”

About thirty years ago, Freeman gradually transitioned to his other great love, photography. Since then he has published two books and exhibited widely in galleries and museums, both in the United States and abroad. His fine art images are in private collections worldwide and in the permanent collections of several prominent American museums. He has shot commercially for Miller Beer, Sony Music and Warner Bros., won numerous prizes, been featured in dozens of books and has scores of magazine features and cover photos to his credit. Curvatures is a collection of Ed Freeman’s large-format, semi-abstract images, exhibited for the first time at Open Mind Art Space. This series began as a study exploring the beautiful, curving lines of the Walt Disney Concert Hall in downtown Los Angeles and comparing them to the same shapes seen in desert cactus. By juxtaposing different images Freeman captures the innate similarity in his subjects, which range from Disney Hall to house plants to driftwood. He manipulates his photographs by layering multiple exposures to obscure detail and emphasize outlines. Color becomes a free agent in these abstractions as well, used to delineate form and enhance contrast. The resulting images are intricate collages made up of crisp lines, sensual textures and vibrant colors.
