California Biennial

THE 2008 California Biennial is all over the place, and that means aesthetically as well as geographically. It includes the work of some 50 artists at over a dozen venues, mostly congregated at the Orange County Museum of Art, but with pieces or displays in Los Angeles, Tijuana, Joshua Tree, Santa Barbara, and San Francisco.

In 2002 I discovered Christopher Russell's 'zine, Bedwetter. With its unconventional design qualities — several issues mandated that you "destroy to enjoy"— and widely varied subject matter provided by a host of talented contributors, it was unlike anything I'd seen.
